This year’s boy’s ice hockey team saw unbelievable success. Last season they suffered a devastating loss to Milford in the last game of the season 5-3. That loss knocked the boys out of a state playoff bid. However, this year was a whole different story for the team. For the first time in five year, the boys’ ice hockey team made it to the state playoffs. They were able to do so while battling multiple injuries and illnesses all season. Along with Coach Amero, the boys’ ice hockey captains, Pete McMahon, Niall Hines and Chris Kachadoorian helped lead the team to some of the biggest wins in Wilton Hockey history. The team upset this year’s FCIAC runner-up, Darien, in a 5-4 thriller and also had a memorable 6-4 win over Staples. This year, the team also made an addition in the coaching staff by deciding to add Coach Bruce Cunningham as an assistant to help out Coach Amero and assistant Coach Mike Cioffi. There was plenty of senior leadership on the team this year to go along with this great addition in the coaching staff. The seniors on the team this year were Peter McMahon, Sean O’Neil, James Fuller, Nial Hines, Mac Tracy, John Resch, Bryan Kaplan and Karsten Olsen. These senior boys left everything out on the ice this year. They did a tremendous job this season and played their hearts out. Although the team will be losing many key players next year, the team has high hopes to return to the playoffs next year.
